As the saying goes, competitors are the best teachers. In how to write authentic product copywriting, you need to always compare it with the listing copywriting written by local American sellers. The sales volume of competitors is an important reference dimension. It runs through the seller’s product selection and operation stages. If a competing product is ranked in the top three, but the daily sales volume is only a dozen, then such a product has no development value.

The Amazon platform is different from domestic e-commerce platforms. There is very little data released to the outside world, and sales volume cannot be seen. Generally speaking, the following three methods can be used to detect the sales of competing products.

1 Add to cart every day

Search for product Luggage on Amazon US site and add the selected Listing to the cart (add to cart). Then, set the purchase quantity to the maximum quantity of 999.

Click the Update button. If the inventory of the competing product is less than 999, it will prompt how many are left for sale.

The inventory of this product is 68 pieces. At the same time the next day, add this Listing to the shopping cart, select the maximum purchase quantity of 999, and repeat the above method. The inventory quantity will definitely be less than 68. The difference is the daily sales volume for this listing. If you persist for a week, the results will be more accurate.

When testing the sales of competing products, some listings set a maximum daily purchase quantity. In this case, it is necessary to collect the daily sales of multiple listings to determine the final daily sales of this product.

Note: When using this method, you need to monitor at the same time every day, such as 10 a.m. or 14 p.m. every day. The detection results at the same time period will be more accurate.

2. Calculated based on product reviews

The review rate on the Amazon platform is very low. Buyers do not have the habit of leaving reviews. The real review rate is about 1,001. In other words, for 100 products sold, only one person will take the initiative to leave a review, but with the seller’s proactive urging, the proportion will increase. Calculated based on the proportion of one review for 100 products sold, let’s take the Luggage example just now. We open the details page of the Listing and click on the location pointed by the arrow.

After clicking Review, select Most recent (the latest).

Due to the limitation of screenshots, the number of Reviews for this product in March 2018 was 6. 6 multiplied by 100 equals 600. The monthly sales quantity of this listing is 600 units, and the daily sales quantity is approximately 19 units.

This calculation method is an estimate, because in the actual operation process, many Chinese sellers like to artificially brush up their reviews. Please note that Amazon has zero tolerance for fake reviews.

3. Third-party service provider software

There are many third-party service providers that can accurately calculate the sales volume of a Listing in a day through crawlers. For example, you can use the AMZsount plug-in to open the product page corresponding to any ASIN code and easily check the sales volume in the last 30 days.

Of course, you can also use many other third-party service provider tools to query.

Basically, free software is difficult to use and has limitations, while good-to-use software is paid. You have to choose it based on your personal circumstances, and it is nothing more than spending money or time.

The first two methods require manual inspection. The advantage is that they can have a better feel for Listing. Although third-party tools can be easily queried, if you use them for a long time, you will become numb to monitoring the sales of competing products.
