After standardizing the storage space and compiling the shelf information, we can lock the goods from the huge group of goods to a certain shelf in the storage warehouse, and it will be much easier for us to find the goods that customers need. However, it is not enough to standardize the storage space. In order to accurately find specific goods, the product information must be clarified.
The standardization of product information mainly refers to the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit, SKU) of the product, which is the abbreviation of the inventory information, the price and size of the product, and the organization and clarification of the Chinese and English customs declaration information. The standardization of product information is conducive to the scientific management of inventory goods. Reasonable SKU coding is conducive to the realization of refined inventory management, and is also conducive to timely and accurate picking and improving efficiency.
9.2.1 Compiling SKU information
Compiling SKU information for products in the warehouse can help us improve overall efficiency.
As the minimum inventory unit, the basic attribute of SKU is non-repeatability. Theoretically, warehouse managers can write them at will without duplication. In practical operation, in order to facilitate the management of sellers in cross-border e-commerce, it is best to write them in a combination from large to small according to the classification attributes of the goods, as follows:
AAAA BBBB CCCC DDDD EEEE FFFF
(Classification sub-classification name specification style in large classification)
In the actual operation of cross-border e-commerce, SKU is not only the smallest inventory unit, but we also need to identify specific product information by writing SKU information.
The above content is just a small example of writing SKU information. In actual situations, e-commerce companies can write different attribute combinations according to the characteristics of their products and management needs. No matter which attribute combinations are used, the order and attribute categories must be consistent to avoid unnecessary confusion.
In actual operation, there will be various products that are repeatedly released or put on the shelves, and the same product may be released by multiple SKUs. For this, we recommend that e-commerce companies add prefixes or suffixes to the original SKU through the system platform to distinguish the products in this way.
For example, if the original SKU of a product is 123, we can set A-123, B-123, C-123 or 123-A, 123-B, 123-C on the corresponding platform when publishing repeatedly, and then set the corresponding prefix separator or suffix separator in the same type of order management system. After the setting is completed, the system will automatically grab the SKU with the corresponding prefix or suffix separator from the platform, and then automatically ignore the corresponding prefix or suffix according to the set rules, thereby achieving efficient inventory management.
