The certificate of origin is a document that proves the origin of goods. It is one of the main bases for the importing country to determine the tax rate treatment, trade statistics, quantity restrictions (such as quotas, licenses, etc.) and control imports from specific countries (such as anti-dumping duties). There are mainly the following types of certificates of origin:
1. Preferential certificate of origin
When goods are exported to countries that grant my country preferential treatment, the exporter needs to fill in the application form and certificate of origin and apply to the commodity inspection agency for a preferential certificate of origin.
When goods are exported to countries or regions that have signed bilateral free trade agreements with my country, it is necessary to apply to the commodity inspection agency for a certificate of origin under the free trade agreement, such as the preferential certificate of origin of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FORME) and the certificate of origin of the China-Chile Free Trade Area (FORM F).
2. General Certificate of Origin (CO)
When goods are exported to a country that has not signed any preferential tariff agreement with my country, the exporter needs to fill out an application form and certificate of origin and apply for a general certificate of origin from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade or a commodity inspection agency at the request of the buyer.
