Shopee does not charge platform usage fees, annual fees, or deposits for Chinese cross-border sellers. But this does not mean that there are no commissions or transaction fees. Let’s take a look at the fees for opening a store on Shopee.

(I) Sales Commission

All sellers need to pay a certain percentage of sales commission for each item sold. Shopee has different sales commission ratios for sellers of different levels. For example, the unit price of a product is NT$200, and the seller’s level is level 3, with a sales commission of 5%. Therefore, the sales commission required to sell a product is NT$200 x 5% = NT$10. At this time, Shopee will charge a sales commission of NT$10 for this product.

Shopee only charges transaction commissions for completed orders (the base for collecting commissions does not include order shipping costs). If the order is cancelled, no transaction commission will be charged. For novice sellers, the platform does not charge transaction commissions in the first three months of operation of each site on the Shopee platform. The annual charging items and standards may be adjusted.

(II) Credit card transaction fee

For each item sold, in addition to the platform transaction commission mentioned above, there will also be a credit card transaction fee, which is the fee that the seller needs to pay after the buyer uses a credit card to purchase the item (after the order is completed).

Taking sellers on the Taiwan site as an example, the credit card transaction fee is charged as follows: 1.5% of the sales amount of a single item (including shipping costs). If there is a decimal point, it will be rounded up.

For example: One item of item A is sold for 400 yuan, and the shipping cost is 60 yuan. If a credit card is used, the credit card transaction fee is 460 yuan x 1.5% = 7 yuan.

In general, the above two fees are the main costs for opening a store on Shopee. Of course, if you dig deeper, there are far more than these. If the seller also offers free shipping, he or she will also need to bear a certain amount of shipping costs; if you want the product to get more exposure, you will also need to pay for in-site advertising, etc.
