PayPal accounts are divided into two types: personal accounts and business accounts. Before 2019, Shopify independent stations were allowed to bind PayPal personal accounts to collect payments. After binding PayPal personal accounts, sellers only needed to perform a simple business account upgrade in the background.

However, starting in 2019, Shopify clearly requires Chinese sellers to use PayPal business accounts if they want to use PayPal to collect payments. At present, you can apply for a PayPal business account with the qualifications of a company or a self-employed person. Some sellers use the qualifications of a self-employed person. The benefits are as follows:

(1) Low cost: It costs a few hundred yuan to find an agency. You can apply for self-employed qualifications.

(2) Convenient and fast: It only takes one week from submitting the information to applying for the self-employed qualification.

(3) Save effort and time: You don’t need to handle it yourself, just find an agency to submit the information.

Register a PayPal business account

Before registering a PayPal business account, you need to prepare the following 4 types of information in advance:

(1) Email (recommended) Gmail email address, which ensures you receive a verification email from PayPal).

(2) Business license (photo) of the Chinese company or self-employed person.

(3) Photos of the front and back of the legal representative’s ID card.

(4) Other certificates, such as office address certificate, etc.

The first step is to log in to the PayPal official website and click the “Start Now” button.

The second step is to select a personal account by default in the newly opened page. At this time, you need to select a business account and click the “Next” button.

The third step is to enter the email address prepared in advance and click the “Continue” button.

The fourth step is to provide company information. All information must be true and valid, and the company address must be consistent with that on the business license. It should be reminded that the business name should be consistent or related to your Shopify independent site name, because this is what your customers can see. For example, if your Shopify standalone site is called rainbowmakeup, then you can fill in rainbowmakeup here. Finally, check the checkboxes for both PayPal terms and click the “Agree and Continue” button.

The fifth step is to submit the legal person’s information. Note: The legal person’s information must be kept consistent with the ID card, and then click the “Submit” button.

The sixth step is to select No for Shopify independent station business and click the “Continue” button.

Step 7: After electronic signature, confirm the following information and click the “Certify and Submit” button.

In step eight, a PayPal business account is registered. After registration is completed, check the email sent by PayPal to activate the account.

PayPal will send you several emails. You can follow the requirements and wait for PayPal to review. After passing the review, you can bind your PayPal account in the Shopify backend to collect payments normally. Generally speaking, it will take 1 to 7 working days for official review results to be available. During this process, if you have any questions, you can contact PayPal’s official customer service: log in to PayPal’s official website, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the “Contact Us” button.

At this time, the page will jump to the customer service page, and you can find the answer in the search box.

Of course, you can also contact customer service in other ways.
