Products that have just been successfully uploaded on the Amazon platform are called “new products”. According to Amazon’s “flywheel theory”, Amazon welcomes a steady stream of new products to enter the platform. Therefore, Amazon will provide a certain degree of traffic support for new products, which is also the biggest advantage of new products over old products!
For some old products with poor sales in the seller’s store, if these old products can be turned into new products, then this is equivalent to giving these old products a chance to “rebirth”. Moreover, the product renovation method is not only useful for the scenario of old products becoming new products, but also for any situation where there is a problem with the link to ASIN in FBA inventory products. Product renovation is one of the best ways to solve such problems! Before we talk about the product renovation method, let’s first popularize a basic knowledge with readers: the concept and difference between Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) and Stock Keeping Unit (SKU). .
The Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) comes from Amazon’s own barcode system and is unique to the Amazon platform. ASIN is a 10-digit alphanumeric code used to identify specific products on the Amazon platform and is only used on the Amazon platform. ASIN is automatically generated by Amazon and cannot be created by individuals. ASIN exists in different Amazon sites, so sellers can provide different ASINs for the same product in different sites.
Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) is a number that sellers can use to manage inventory. Every product sold on Amazon must have its own SKU. Sellers can create their own SKU to help organize product information, or Amazon can create SKUs for sellers. In addition, the FNSKU posted on the products we send to Amazon FBA warehouses is also a derivative of SKU. I usually recommend that sellers establish SKUs based on unique identification information (for example, product attributes, size, color, etc.). For example, sellers can set the SKU of women’s black size 38 shoes to WM-BLACK-38.
Generally, a product has only one ASIN, but a product can have multiple SKUs. ASIN is a product-level identification code, which is a unique identification code for the product, while SKU is a seller account-level identification code. A product can be sold by different seller accounts, so there can be many SKUs under one ASIN.
After understanding the concepts and differences between SKU and ASIN, how can we achieve the most efficient renovation?
The principle of renovation is very simple. First, the old SKU must be retained, because only by retaining the old SKU can the products in the Amazon FBA warehouse be saved. Second, we need to change a brand new ASIN for the product because only with a brand new ASIN can the product be considered a new product on the Amazon platform. Therefore, the core of renovation is to create a product page of “old SKU” + “new ASIN”!
So how to do it specifically?
First, prepare a brand new UPC and back up the product pictures that need to be refurbished. Second, log in to the Amazon seller backend, find the target product page that needs to be refurbished on the “Manage Inventory” page, click on the product page and select “Copy to New Product”, and we can enter a page to create a new product.
Because it is “Copy to New Product”, the information on this page is consistent with the original product page that needs to be refurbished, including categories, titles, selling points, descriptions, keywords, and various parameters. The page is all synchronized with the information of the old products, but the product pictures are missing. At this time, the product pictures we prepared before come in handy. Next, find the column that needs to be filled in “SKU”, please fill in a SKU here (you can name it yourself), and fill in the prepared new UPC in the “Product Code Column”. After all is done, click Save.
After waiting for a while, refresh the “Manage Inventory” page of the Amazon seller backend, find the newly created product page link in “Manage Inventory”, and record the new ASIN. In the “Manage Inventory” page, find the target link that needs to be refurbished and directly select “Delete Products and Quotes”.
We find the newly created ASIN link in the “Manage Inventory” page, and click “Copy to New Product” as before, and then a new product interface will pop up. Next, upload the previously prepared product pictures, find the “Seller SKU” column, please be sure to fill in the “Old SKU” of the old link that needs to be refurbished, and fill in the new ASIN that has just been created in the “Product Code Column”. After all is done, click Save.
After waiting for a while, refresh the “Manage Inventory” page, so that the link of “old SKU” + “new ASIN” we need is completed. Does this mean that the product renovation is successful? Obviously not. We still need to take the last and most critical step, which is to convert our link to FBA delivery, that is, to match it with the original FBA inventory. When the seller uploads the new link, remember to choose FBA delivery as the delivery method. If it cannot be synchronized, you can go to Amazon Logistics in the Amazon seller backend to ask for help, indicating that there is inventory that cannot be sold, and the logistics customer service will help you refresh it.
How should a store that has applied for GTIN exemption refurbish its products? The method is the same as above, use a “new SKU” to put it on the shelf directly, and then get a new ASIN code, then delete the old product, and then use “old SKU” + “new ASIN” to put a new link on the shelf. The operating principle of product renovation is the same for stores with GTIN exemption and those without GTIN exemption, but the operation sequence is different.
Here is the whole renovation process. Strictly speaking, this renovation method is inspired by the launch of new products. The work of launching new products looks basic, and many small tricks can be extended from it. Readers can study it carefully when they have time.
