As an indispensable sales channel, e-commerce platforms play an increasingly important role in online sales in Spain. If cross-border sellers want to do a good job in business, in addition to understanding the popular product types in the Spanish e-commerce market, the overall trends in the e-commerce industry and the purchasing habits of buyers, they should pay special attention to the selection of products, so here are 3 things sellers must know about product selection.

1. Best-selling products for buyers of different genders

The survey shows that 51% of buyers on e-commerce platforms are men and 49% are women. There is no obvious gap in the number of buyers between different genders, but there are different shopping tendencies when choosing products.

The products that female buyers buy most in the e-commerce market are electronic products, fashion, household products, information products, beauty products and stationery. Men mainly buy electronic products, information products, household goods, fashion, sports products and books on e-commerce platforms. We also noticed that female buyers are willing to buy more goods on e-commerce platforms.

2. Consumption habits in the e-commerce market during quarantine

The outbreak of the new crown epidemic and the family quarantine policy have inevitably had a certain impact on the consumption habits of users in the e-commerce market. During the epidemic, the number of products purchased by buyers on e-commerce platforms decreased from 5.3 to 2.5, and the quarantine policy made household products, books and auxiliary medicines stand out from the various categories and become several very popular products. During this period, buyers’ interest in fashion seemed to have greatly decreased.

3. Best-selling products for different types of buyers

According to the purchase volume and consumption, buyers on the market can be divided into three categories:

Intensive buyers who purchase at least twice a month and spend more than 100 euros on average;

Habitual buyers who purchase once a month or two months;

Occasionally or every four months or more.

Each buyer has different purchasing habits on e-commerce platforms. Occasional buyers have the lowest consumption frequency, but the consumption amount is higher, averaging 150 euros.

Intensive buyers are generally more willing to choose to consume various products on e-commerce platforms than the average. For these buyer groups, electronic products, household goods and information products are the most popular, and buying fashion on e-commerce platforms is not their first choice. In addition to sports, stationery and other products, which are usually more popular, intensive buyers also clearly tend to buy beauty and baby products on the e-commerce platform.

As for habitual buyers, the best-selling order of products is not much different from the overall ranking, except that movie and music products are particularly popular among these buyers. Occasional buyers are particularly interested in cars and motorcycles, which is above average.
