On Douyin, hundreds of thousands of new works are uploaded every day. If it is easy to find loopholes if it is reviewed by machines, and the workload is relatively large, it is obviously not realistic to rely entirely on manual review. Therefore, double review has become the threshold for Douyin’s algorithm to screen video content.
The first threshold: machine review
Machine review generally uses a pre-set artificial intelligence model to identify the images and keywords of the video. It mainly has the following two functions.
(1) Review whether there are any violations in the works and copywriting. If there are suspected violations, they will be intercepted by the machine.
It will be prompted to pay attention to by floating yellow or marking red.
(2) By extracting the images and key frames in the video, it is matched with the massive works already in the Douyin database to eliminate duplication. Works with duplicate content will be recommended as low-traffic or downgraded, that is, they will only be visible to fans and themselves.
The second threshold: manual review
Manual review is mainly concentrated in three areas: video title, cover screenshot and video key frame.
Douyin reviewers will conduct detailed reviews of suspected illegal works and works that are prone to illegal areas that are screened out by machine review. If a violation is confirmed, Douyin will delete the video, issue a demotion notice, ban the account, and other penalties.
In order to ensure the sustainability of the community, Douyin is very strict in the review process. When reviewing a video, Douyin will restore the video to a frame-by-frame image, and then identify whether there is any illegal content on the image, with an identification accuracy of up to 99.5%. Therefore, don’t be lucky, and be honest in creating content. Otherwise, no matter how well you package it, even if the initial release is successful, there will be random inspections and audits later. Once a violation is found, you will still be forcibly deleted.
