A typical Reddit post and its comments. Users can comment on, share, collect, and tip posts. Comments can also be liked, disliked, commented on, shared, reported, collected, or tipped. These actions are Reddit content interactions.
The basic steps to create content and participate in interactions on Reddit are as follows.
(1) Find the right Subreddit
Before posting content, you must first find the right Subreddit. The content you post should be consistent with the theme of the Subreddit, just like the products on an e-commerce platform cannot be misclassified. There are two main ways to find the right Subreddit.
a. Enter keywords to search for topics in the “Search” search bar on the Reddit homepage. Enter the keyword “mask” and the system will prompt the relevant subcommunities and their number of members in the drop-down box.
b. Enter the redditlist URL in the browser address bar to open the “redditlist” page.
Redditlist summarizes the most popular Subreddits and can also be searched by keywords. In addition, it also provides some data about Reddit. Through these data, users can understand how many subscribers they have and how fast they are growing, as well as the topics that people are interested in, future trends, and competitor products. Users can find their favorite topics or subreddits here.
(2) Publish original content and actively participate in post discussions
Users in the Reddit community are mostly gathered together because of hobbies and careers, and they welcome original content. If you want to succeed on Reddit, you must truly respect users and consider the values and preferences of the audience when posting. For example, it would be inappropriate to promote your T-shirts in a comics-themed community. Christine McConnell gained a large number of fans on Reddit by posting her own handmade creative works in the handmade community, which attracted the attention of relevant personnel and then she had her own show.
Find communities that are relevant to you, actively participate in post discussions, and strive to become an active contributor to the community.
(3) Arrange the best time to post and comment
Understand the time when subcommunities publish and push popular posts, and post or comment on posts when there are many users online at the same time, which is conducive to content dissemination.
(4) Improve the quality of comments
Improving the quality of comments is the key to interacting with Redditors. Excellent comments may inspire participation and even get rewards. Jason Calacanis, host of This Week in Startups radio station and angel investor, actively comments and responds to topics related to entrepreneurship and investment on Reddit, and collects questions for his own radio Q&A session on Reddit.
(5) Don’t do anything illegal
You must strictly follow the rules of the Reddit website when posting, commenting, liking, etc. Otherwise, you may be boycotted by other Redditors or even punished by the administrator.
