Major festivals and eating habits in India

Major festivals in India include New Year (January 1), Republic Day (January 26), Gandhi’s Birthday (October 2), Diwali (also known as the Festival of Lights, the Indian Festival of Lights or Deepavali, held in October or mid-November each year), Independence Day (August 15), etc. In terms of eating habits, Indian customers are mainly vegetarians, generally do not use chopsticks, and prefer raw onions and curry.

Things to note when negotiating business with Indian customers

(1) In terms of quotations, Indian customers are usually very sensitive to prices, like to compare prices from different stores, and like to bargain. Therefore, when quoting to Indian customers, you should make sure that the other party feels that there is room for negotiation. However, when the price reaches the bottom line, do not hesitate and insist on the price bottom line.

(2) In terms of business negotiations, Indian customers are very cautious during business negotiations and hope to draft the details of the contract terms as detailed and clear as possible. Therefore, salesmen should be careful about every word, especially the key terms, whether in business negotiations before signing the contract or when reviewing the contract. For example, in the choice of payment method, salesmen should give priority to T/T, then L/C, and do not recommend D/P. They must receive advance payment, which is generally around 30%. If you choose the L/C payment method, it is best to ask the customer to send their bank information for verification, and choose a relatively large local bank with a good reputation.

(3) In terms of information exchange, you should try to communicate with Indian customers by email. If you choose to communicate by phone, you can also confirm by email afterwards, which is less likely to make mistakes.
