In order to create a better customer experience, Amazon has a strict set of standards for product display images. Product images on the Amazon platform include main images and auxiliary images. Sellers can upload one main image and up to eight auxiliary images. Amazon’s requirements for product images are as follows.
(1) The main image must be a pure white background (RGB value is 255, 255, 255) without any text, watermark, border, packaging box, or accessories or products other than the product being sold.
(2) The main image must clearly show the actual product, and cannot show pictures or hand-drawn drawings, and cannot show irrelevant accessories (such as support racks, hangers, shoe racks, etc.).
(3) Product images only show the product for sale, and only show a single image, with few or no display models.
(4) The product itself occupies 85% or more of the entire image.
(5) The length or width of the product image must be at least 1000 pixels on one side, and the other side must be at least 500 pixels.
(6) Products can be worn on real models, but cannot be placed on human models, and must not contain nudity.
(7) The formats of images include TIFF (.tif), GIF (.gif), and JPEG (pg), among which IPEG format is recommended.
In addition, there are some specific requirements for some special categories.
(1) For shoes, the main image must be a single shoe without a model, and the left foot must be placed to the left. If there is a picture of a real model wearing the shoes, it can only be displayed as a supplementary image.
(2) For earrings, they must be displayed in pairs.
(3) For socks, if one pair is sold, only one pair can be shown in the product image; if multiple pairs are sold, the corresponding number of pairs should be shown in the product image.
(4) For home furnishings, the main image of some decorative items does not require a pure white background, such as bed sets, mosquito nets, wall hangings, curtains, and lamps.
E-commerce relies on pictures to speak, so uploading compliant and beautiful pictures is crucial for product sales. It is precisely because the Amazon platform has a set of strict standards for displayed pictures that the operation of the entire platform is more standardized. For sellers, it also reduces the time cost of working on pictures, and can spend more time on developing new products to meet consumer needs.
