1. Product Category Classification

Like AliExpress, Amazon also emphasizes the need to operate in compliance with laws and regulations. Sellers cannot sell products or services that violate laws and social ethics. Amazon divides the products sold into open categories and restricted categories. Sellers who sell open category products do not need to apply for a specific product sales license from Amazon, but some categories are only allowed to operate as new products, while some categories need to be operated according to Amazon’s specific requirements.

2. Product Details Page Rules

The product details page is the primary channel for customers to learn about the merchant’s products or services. In order to help customers learn more about the merchant’s products, Amazon proposes the following rules to ensure a high-quality shopping experience.

(1) HTML, JavaScript, or other types of code cannot be used in the product details page. In special circumstances, merchants can use line breaks “<br/>” in the description.

(2) None of the following content is allowed in the product details page title, description, bullet points, or images.

Offensive content.

Phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, or website URLs.

Details of availability, price, or condition.

Links to other websites or other shipping offers, such as free shipping.

Plot spoilers for books, music, and videos or DVDs (BMVD), including plot details of important plot points or endings.

Comments, quotes, or recommendations.

Requests for favorable reviews.

Advertisements, promotional materials, or watermarks on images, photos, or videos.

Temporary information, such as dates of tours, seminars, or lectures.

(3)Product titles may not exceed 200 characters, including spaces. This limit applies to all categories. Some categories may have fewer characters. See the category-specific template for more information.

(4)Adhere to Amazon’s standards for listing any product sold on Amazon. Failure to do so may affect the customer experience and may result in the temporary or permanent removal of the seller’s selling privileges. This includes, but is not limited to, the following.

All products must be accurately categorized. For information about correctly classifying products, refer to Amazon’s “Product Classifier” and “Browse Tree Guide” help pages.

Product titles, product descriptions, and bullet points must be clearly written and help customers understand the product.

Product images must meet Amazon image standard requirements. For more information, refer to product image requirements.

In addition, Amazon sellers should note that when publishing products, if the product has already been created in a related category by other sellers, sellers cannot create products that already exist in the catalog, and can only sell them as “Existing Products”. Therefore, sellers are also not allowed to use updated and improved products for published products, including changes in color, size, material, features, and product names. At this time, the seller must re-establish a new product category. For example, a manufacturer updates its old remote control by adding a new remote control with four buttons instead of two buttons, which is significantly different from the old version and it must be listed as a new ASIN.

All products listed on the Amazon platform must comply with North American product safety standards.
