We can understand the market demand by using Google Keyword Planner. This tool can search for keywords and view the search volume, competition intensity and related search terms of each keyword.

Note: According to Google’s latest policy, the search volume of keywords currently searched only shows specific values for Google Adwords paying users, while only the approximate search value range is shown for non-paying users.

To use the Google Keyword Planner, you need to have a Google Adwords account, which is free for sellers. Register an account and log in, select Tools from the top menu, then select Keyword Planning, and select the “Search for new keyword and ad group ideas” option to search for new keywords and ad group ideas.

Enter your product keywords in the page that opens (you can try several related or similar keywords), and if necessary, you can set the “country” filter according to your preferences.

For example, to search for coconut hair oil products, enter “Coconut Oil for Hair” in the search box, as shown in Figure 9-10, then select the United States and Canada (select the main market for the product) in the “Your product category” drop-down menu, and click the “Get Ideas” button to enter a new page.

In the new page that opens, the default tab is “Ad group ideas”, and you need to switch to the “Keyword ideas” tab.

In the “Keyword ideas” option, the first column shows the searched keywords and related keywords: The second column shows the average search volume per month in the specified area: The third column shows the competition level of each keyword in Google Adwords (paid advertising) Search results for the keyword “Coconut Oil for Hair”.

In the search results list, there are two points that need special explanation.

(1) Long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords are those that consist of multiple words. Although you don’t need to look for long-tail keywords all the time, long-tail words and niche long-tail words that are closely related to the product are very useful, such as the keyword “Coconut oil for hair” related to “Coconut Oil for Hair”. care” (coconut hair care oil), etc.

(2) High search volume. Long-tail keywords may also have a high search volume. A high search volume obviously means that more people are looking for the product.

Sellers can analyze the search volume of potential keywords from related searches each month. According to the seller’s previous experience, a search volume of more than 100,000 times per month indicates that the market demand for the product is very large. If many keywords related to it show low competition, it means that it is more likely to become a hit. Low-competition keywords usually mean that it will be easier to rank and more convenient to buy ads based on these keywords.
