Douyin is a very powerful drainage channel. The previous section explained the importance of diverting Douyin fans to WeChat. This section will introduce specific diversion methods to help “Douyin merchants” achieve platform mutual promotion. Here again, to increase Douyin fans or WeChat traffic, you must first do a good job of content and continuously consolidate your personal IP through content operations. Only with good content can you attract fans and make them willing to forward and share. Slowly, there will be more and more “fish” in your traffic pool, and you will be closer to success.
1. Reveal WeChat ID in the video content
The main method is to reveal WeChat in the short video content. It can be said by the anchor himself, or it can be shown through the background, or it can be watermarked with WeChat. As long as the video becomes popular, the WeChat ID in it will also be exposed in large quantities. It should be noted that it is best not to add a watermark directly to the video. Doing so will not only affect the fans’ viewing experience, but also fail to pass the review and may even be blocked by the system.
2. Display WeChat ID in the account profile
The account profile of Douyin is usually simple and clear, and can be solved in one sentence. The main principle is “describe the account + guide attention”. The basic setting skills are as follows: the first half of the sentence describes the characteristics or functions of the account, and the second half guides attention to WeChat. The account profile can use multiple lines of text, but the words guiding adding WeChat must appear in the visual center of the multiple lines of text; users can cleverly recommend other accounts in the profile, but it is not recommended to directly guide adding WeChat, etc. Displaying WeChat ID in the account profile is currently the most commonly used method of diversion, and it is also very convenient and quick to modify. But it should be noted that you should not directly mark “WeChat” in it. You can use pinyin abbreviations, homophones or other related symbols instead. As long as the user’s original short video has a larger number of views and a higher exposure rate, the effect of diversion will be better.
3. Set WeChat ID in personal name
Setting WeChat ID in personal name was a common diversion method used by Douyin in the early days (see Figure 7-30), but the competition between Toutiao and Tencent is very fierce, so Douyin is very strict in reviewing WeChat in the name, and “Douyin merchants” need to be very cautious when using this method.
It is also very convenient to change the name on Douyin. You can enter the “Settings” interface and click the “Edit Profile” button. Enter the “Edit Profile” interface and click the “Name” column, as shown in Figure 7-31. Enter the “Change Name” interface and enter a new name in the “My Name” text box, as shown in Figure 7-32; click the “Save” button to save and the account name can be changed.

4. Set up WeChat account in Douyin account
Douyin account, like WeChat account, is a unique string of characters that others can quickly find you, located below the personal nickname. “Douyin business” can directly change their Douyin account to WeChat account, as shown in Figure 7-34. However, Douyin account can only be modified once, and it cannot be modified once it is approved. Therefore, “Douyin business” must think about whether this WeChat account is the one you use most before modifying it.
However, this method has a very obvious disadvantage, that is, the WeChat account of “Douyin business” may encounter the upper limit of friends, so it is impossible to divert traffic through Douyin account. Therefore, it is recommended that “Douyin business” set Douyin account as a public account, which can effectively avoid this problem.
5. Set WeChat ID on personal avatar
The avatars of Douyin accounts are all pictures. If WeChat ID is exposed in them, the system is not easy to identify. However, the display area of the avatar is relatively small, and fans need to click to enlarge it before they can see it clearly. Therefore, the diversion effect is average, as shown in Figure 7-43. In addition, the avatar with WeChat ID also needs to be made by users in advance using Photoshop or photo editing apps.
It should be noted that Douyin accounts must be used with caution. The avatar of Douyin accounts also needs to have characteristics, and must show their most beautiful side, or Douyin merchants show the good image of the company.
6. Drain traffic by setting the people to follow
‘Douyin merchants’ can create multiple small accounts, use them as guide accounts, and then use the big account to follow these small accounts, and use the big account to divert traffic to the small accounts.
In addition, ‘Douyin merchants’ can also expose the small account in the big account’s personal profile to divert traffic to the small account. For example, the Douyin account of “Hot Mom Knowledge Collection” attracts fans to follow her other Douyin accounts through electronic information in the account profile, as shown in Figure 7-46.
Many “Douyin merchants” may have transformed from WeChat merchants. They may not be able to adapt to the short video market and find it difficult to monetize. At this time, they can only divert Douyin traffic to areas they are familiar with. However, Douyin has strict restrictions on this behavior and will impose traffic restrictions or even account bans. It is also very difficult for “Douyin merchants” to raise their big accounts. At this time, they can only borrow these small accounts to divert traffic to WeChat or public accounts. Although some detours have been taken, at least many risks can be avoided.
7. Big accounts like small accounts to divert traffic
After seeing the wonderful short video content, many users will not only follow the creator of the short video, but also go to see the content he likes out of curiosity. At this time, “Douyin merchants” can use the curiosity of these fans to like their small account works in the “like” list to attract fans’ attention, and then use small accounts to divert traffic to WeChat in some bolder ways.
