Cross-border e-commerce sellers should not only analyze the micro data of their stores, but also the macro data related to the entire market. Google Trends, Google AdWords, Google Analytics and Google News are all good tools for monitoring macro international market data.
(1) Google Trends
Baidu Index refers to a data sharing platform based on Baidu’s massive Internet user behavior data. For domestic Taobao online store sellers, Baidu Index is a very complete data statistics tool. Baidu Index cannot fully calculate the data results of foreign users, so it is not suitable for cross-border e-commerce sellers. Instead, they must use internationally common statistical tools. Google Trends is a data sharing platform similar to Baidu Index. By counting the search volume of keywords over a period of time, it can obtain the international hot content of the current period and use charts to display the statistical results to users.
After entering the search term “dress” in the search box on the main page of “Google Trends”, the statistical results will be displayed. A trend chart showing the global popularity of keywords from 2004 to the present will appear. Drag down to see the regional popularity and related searches of the keyword. If a cross-border e-commerce seller mainly targets customers in the United States and wants to know whether it is better to sell “dress” or “skin”, he can set “Country/Region” to “United States” and “Time” to “Last 90 Days”, and then add a search term “skirt” after “dress”. Now you can see the search frequency of skint and dress in the United States in the past 90 days. It can be clearly seen that the search frequency of dress is much higher than that of skirt.
Continue to drag the mouse down on this page, and you can also see the search results of dress in different sub-regions, that is, different states in the United States. It can be seen that the frequency of searching for the keyword dress in Mississippi is the highest, followed by Delaware. Switch the search keyword to skirt to see the regional popularity of the keyword. Among them, Alaska has the highest search volume, followed by Montana.
In order to meet the needs of most users, Google also conducts related searches on keywords. In this figure, sellers can see the search results of search terms related to dress or skint.
(2) Google News
In addition to Google In addition to trend tools, cross-border e-commerce sellers can also use Google News to monitor data. Through this tool, you can not only keep abreast of foreign information or popular trends, but also obtain the number of search results for keywords, and then analyze the store’s product situation by comparing the number of searches for similar products in different subcategories.
Enter the keyword “pencil skint” in the search box on the Google News page, and you can see that in the default case, that is, when the search time is not limited, the number of search results containing this keyword is as high as more than 1.37 million. If you want to change the search time range of keywords, you can click the “Search” button, then click the down triangle button to the right of “Recent”, select the time range in the expanded list, such as “Last week”, and then collapse the tool, you can see that the search results for “peneilskint” in one week are 5880.
If you set the time range to “Past month”, you can see that the search results become 16,000. Comparing the search results within a week and within a month, we can find that the search results for “pencil skin” within a week account for almost half of the search results within a month, indicating that the keyword has appeared more frequently in the news recently, and thus we can roughly infer that pencil skin is more popular abroad recently.
