Konga: The development history and current situation of Nigeria’s leading e-commerce platform

Konga is Nigeria’s premier online shopping website. Since its establishment in July 2012, Konga has rapidly developed into the most visited Nigerian website. The platform currently offers more than 150,000 different products, including fashion, small items and household products.

Konga initially only sold maternal, infant and beauty products in Lagos, Nigeria, but soon developed into multiple categories and launched a fierce market competition with its competitor Jumia. Konga successfully raised a $3.5 million seed round shortly after its launch, followed by Series A and Series B rounds worth $10 million and $25 million in 2013, which became the largest fundraisings among African startups at the time. Konga’s revenue increased by 450% that year.

At the end of 2014, Konga once again set a record for a single round of financing for African startups, successfully raising US$40 million. In January 2015, Konga was recognized by Alexa, a world-renowned website data analysis company, and was named the most visited e-commerce platform in Nigeria.

In 2018, Konga was acquired by Zinox, a computer production and sales company, and merged with emerging retail store Yudala to form a larger e-commerce platform. Under the leadership of the new Konga brand, the platform actively competes with other brands and is committed to exploring the African e-commerce market.
