The in-basket test is implemented in a hypothetical test environment. The hypothetical scenario simulates the actual business, management environment, and corporate culture of a company. The candidate is provided with a batch of documents that the position often needs to handle, such as financial statements, market strategies, public relations, and customer relations. The person being evaluated is required to handle them as a manager within a certain time and under specified conditions, and to explain the principles and reasons for such handling in writing or orally. The interviewer evaluates the candidate’s planning, organization, communication, and decision-making abilities through the candidate’s performance and written expression during the interview.

The in-basket test is one of the most commonly used and core technologies in the assessment center. It has the following advantages:

(1) Wide range of applications. The wide range of examination content makes the document handling test widely practical. The document handling test is a commonly used test in many public selection examinations.

(2) High degree of authenticity. The document handling test completely simulates the actual business and management scenarios that occur in reality, and has a high degree of authenticity to actual operations, so it has high predictive validity.

(3) Flexibility. Questions can be designed according to different job positions, different nature of work and the abilities to be evaluated.

3. Role Playing

Role playing is an important method in situational simulation. First, give the candidate a role script, set certain obstacles or difficulties, and ask the candidate to play the specific management role to handle daily management affairs. It mainly examines the candidate’s interpersonal relationship handling ability. Role playing can better reproduce the real situation in the organization, can obtain more real information about the subject, and has a better predictive effect on future work performance. This test method can be tested by a single person or by multiple people at the same time. It mainly examines the candidate’s communication ability, judgment and decision-making ability, interpersonal understanding, interpersonal influence, role adaptability, etc.

4. Speech

The speech is to give the candidate a certain topic and preparation time to express his own views and reasons. After the candidate’s speech, the interviewer can ask and evaluate the candidate based on the content of the speech. It mainly tests the candidate’s language expression ability, logical thinking ability, reaction ability and problem-solving ability. Speech is a way for candidates to show themselves and sell themselves. It is also an important means for interviewers to communicate with candidates and explain their views.
