Although the goal management method is effective, in many cases it is still managed through external conditions. If the team cohesion is not strong, it is easy to cause team personnel loss and cannot be maintained for a long time. Therefore, if there is no rigid requirement for hourly performance targets in the short term and the team’s operational capabilities are relatively outstanding, managers can try to use the OKR work method to achieve more humane and efficient management.
O stands for Objective, which refers to the long-term goal determined after collective discussion by the team; KR stands for Key Results, which refers to the quantifiable indicators that need to be achieved in order to achieve this goal. The most important thing is the goal, which requires the goal itself to be correct. When determining the goal, managers must first create an atmosphere for discussion. Only when the team’s goals are consistent can everyone’s work enthusiasm be fully mobilized to achieve sales growth.
For example, a seller’s performance in the first half of the year reached US$5,000 per day, and the manager wanted to set a goal of doubling sales in half a year. After discussing with the team internally, the manager believed that although there would be an opportunity to achieve the goal when the peak season came in the second half of the year, it was difficult to maintain the supply chain resources and the inventory risk was too high, so the goal was adjusted to stabilize the daily sales of US$8,000. Through store analysis, it is found that the current store has two hot summer items, with daily sales of 3,000 US dollars. At the same time, the sales of autumn and winter items are gradually increasing. At this time, the key results are set as follows: before “Black Friday”, the daily sales of the two winter items will be pushed to 5,000 US dollars, the daily sales of the spring and autumn items will be pushed to 2,000 US dollars, the daily sales of the summer items will be maintained at 500 US dollars, and the Halloween and Christmas items will be appropriately promoted to reach 1,000 US dollars per day.
It is worth noting that the use of the OKR work method does not mean giving up KPI assessment. Managers are still responsible for the performance of the team and play the role of “leader” in the process of achieving goals.
