Audience targeting is a key part of Facebook advertising strategy. Facebook provides three audience targeting methods, one of which is to create a similar audience. The importance of similar audiences is self-evident. It allows us to expand the reach of our business by finding potential users who are similar to existing customers. Through similar audiences, we can reach new users who are likely to be interested in our business because they are similar to our existing high-quality customers in certain characteristics, such as region, age, gender, interests and behaviors. Today, we will analyze in depth how to use Facebook ads to build similar audiences and open up new market opportunities.
Before creating a similar audience, there are some important considerations to keep in mind. First, you need to select a source audience, which is a set of custom audiences that can be created based on pixel data, mobile app data, or homepage fan data. The system will identify user characteristics in the source audience, such as demographic information or interests, and find potential users with similar characteristics for you.
When creating a similar audience, you can choose the audience size. The smaller the audience size, the higher the match with the source audience. If you want to increase your potential reach, you can create a larger audience, but this will also reduce the similarity between the similar audience and the source audience. Generally speaking, Facebook recommends a source audience size of between 1,000 and 50,000 people. In addition, the quality of the source audience is also very important. For example, a source audience composed of your best customers will generate a higher quality similar audience than a source audience composed of all your customers.
In addition to the above considerations, there is some additional information to consider. When creating a similar audience, you can select one or more countries to target. The source audience must contain at least 100 users in a single country in order for Facebook to create a similar audience based on it. You can create up to 500 similar audiences based on one source audience. It is important to note that similar audiences will exclude users in the source audience unless you use a pixel as the source audience. In a single ad group, you can use multiple similar audiences at the same time to target ads to users in the selected similar audiences.
Here are the steps to create a similar audience:
Step 1: Preparing.
Before you can create a similar audience for Facebook ads, you must have administrator privileges for the Page or pixel that will be the source of your audience. Only the creator of a custom audience can create a similar audience with it as the source audience. If you want to create a similar audience with mobile app install data as the source, you must be the administrator or developer of the app.
Step 2: Create a Facebook similar audience.
Log in to your Facebook Ads Management Console and find the Similar Audience option in the Audience section.
Click the “Create Audience” drop-down menu and select “Similar Audience.”
Select an event source. Note that an event source can be a custom audience created from non-pixel data, mobile app data, or Page fan data. It is recommended to select 1,000 to 50,000 of your best customers as the source audience based on lifetime value, transaction value, total order size, or engagement.
Select the country or countries where you want to find a similar audience.
Use the slider to select the desired audience size.
Click “Create Audience.” Additionally, you can create Similar Audiences while you’re creating ads in Ads Manager.
Keep in mind that it may take 6-24 hours for your Similar Audience to take effect. After that, as long as you continue to run ads to Similar Audiences, the system will refresh Similar Audiences every 3-7 days. You don’t have to wait for Similar Audiences to update before you can run ads to this group. To see if your Similar Audience has been updated, you can visit the Audience Manager page and check the date under the Availability column.
By using Facebook ads to build Similar Audiences, you can discover new market opportunities, connect with potential users, and further grow your business. Continuously optimizing and adjusting the selection and size of Similar Audiences will help you achieve more accurate ad targeting, improve advertising performance, and achieve better business results. So don’t hesitate, start creating your Similar Audiences now and start a new journey of growth!
