Amazon has recently expanded the brand registration (Amazon Brand Registry) regulations to Amazon websites other than the United States.
Amazon requires that you must apply for registration in a standardized font style before you can conduct brand registration on Amazon: the United States, Canada, Mexico, India, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the European Union. Therefore, if you need to list on Amazon in the above countries, it is recommended that applicants apply for trademarks in the above countries in a standardized font style (text without trademark sample images).
Amazon requires all merchants to register their brands. Sellers who have registered their brands on Amazon can use multiple additional marketing tools (such as image search, etc.). In addition, the merchant’s registered trademarks will be identified by Amazon’s intelligent control system to prevent others from selling (texts with registered merchant trademarks) on the Amazon market and safeguard the patent rights of trademark holders.
Key points about brand registration on Amazon in the UK:
1. The merchant’s trademark must be registered with the Chinese Trademark Office (it can be in the process of application or already registered);
2. The merchant’s trademark must be a “standard character mark” trademark, that is, a pure text trademark without any design, graphics or Chinese characters, such as “NIKE”, “TOYOTA” and other trademarks containing only Roman letters;
3. The trademark text of the merchant’s registered trademark must be consistent with the trademark text that appears on the products sold between the two (graphics or text trademarks can appear in other places on the product);
4. Merchants who have registered their brands before May 2017 must re-register in accordance with the new standards.

It must be noted that applicants who have registered US trademarks but non-standard characters should re-register a text-only word trademark to meet the requirements of Amazon brand registration. The use of trademark owners’ design trademarks, graphic trademarks, Chinese trademarks, etc. will not be affected.
Amazon’s brand registration requirement is to have a gray top inside Amazon. In case of infringement or other trademark disputes, the registration with the local trademark office shall prevail.
