Land Bridge Transport refers to a continuous transport mode that uses a transcontinental railway or road transport system as an intermediate bridge to connect the ocean transport at both ends of the continent. Land Bridge Transport generally uses containers as the medium and adopts a sea/land/sea transport route.

Currently, the world’s main land bridges include the Siberian Land Bridge, the North American Land Bridge, and the New Eurasian Land Bridge.

(1) The Siberian Land Bridge transport route starts from the port of Nahotka in Vladivostok in the east, crosses the Eurasian continent to Moscow, and then divides into three routes: one route from Moscow to the port of St. Petersburg on the Baltic Sea coast, and then transfers to ports in Western Europe and Northern Europe; the second route from Moscow to the western border station of Russia, and then transfers to other European countries by rail (road) and directly transports to European countries; the third route from Moscow to the Black Sea coast, and then transfers to the Middle East and the Mediterranean coast.

(2) The North American Land Bridge includes land bridges in the United States and Canada. There are two land bridge transport lines in the United States: one is a railway (highway) transport system from the western Pacific port to the eastern Atlantic port, with a total length of about 3,200 kilometers; the other is a railway (highway) transport system from the western Pacific port to the southern Gulf of Mexico port, with a length of 500 to 1,000 kilometers.

(3) The New Eurasian Land Bridge starts from Lianyungang, my country in the east and ends at Rotterdam, the Netherlands in the west. It crosses the two continents of Asia and Europe, connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, passes through China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany to the Netherlands, radiates to more than 20 countries and regions, with a total length of 10,800 kilometers, and a total length of 4,134 kilometers in my country. The Siberian Land Bridge is currently the most widely used. In addition, there is an OCP transport method. The United States has freight preferential terms for land bridge transport, namely OCP transport terms. OCP stands for Over Land Common Point, referred to as “inland area”. The United States has a vast territory and many inland cities. In order to attract goods sent to inland cities to be transferred through the West Coast ports, the shipping companies on the West Coast have formulated a preferential rate that is lower than the direct West Coast ports, called the OCP rate. The landforms east of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, and New Mexico in the United States belong to the OCP area.

According to the OCP transportation terms, all goods that are transferred to the above-mentioned inland areas through the West Coast ports of the United States, if transported under the OCP terms, the freight rate is 3%~5% lower than that of the direct West Coast ports. In the opposite direction, all goods shipped from the inland areas of the United States and loaded and exported through the West Coast ports can also be handled according to the OCP transportation terms. At the same time, according to the OCP transportation terms, you can enjoy a preferential ocean freight rate that is lower than the normal transportation, which is 3%~5 US dollars lower per ton. When using the OCP terms, the word OCP must be indicated in the remarks column of the bill of lading and on the cargo header. For example, a batch of goods exported from my country to the United States, the unloading port is Los Angeles, the United States, and the final destination is Chicago. Los Angeles is one of the ports on the west coast of the United States, and Chicago is a city in the inland area of the United States. This transaction complies with the OCP regulations. With the consent of both parties, the OCP transportation terms can be adopted. The destination port in the trade contract and letter of credit can be filled in “Los Angeles (inland area)”, that is, “CIF Los Angeles”. In addition to filling in the destination port of Los Angeles on the bill of lading, the words “inland area Chicago” must also be noted in the remarks column, that is, “OCP Chicago”. Only with detailed notes can you enjoy the OCP preferential terms.

Land Bridge Transportation has the advantages of container transportation and international multimodal transportation, and Land Bridge Transportation can better reflect the use of mature sea and land transportation conditions to form a reasonable transportation route, greatly shortening the operation time and reducing the operation cost.
