According to the different delivery locations of containerized cargo, theoretically, there are 16 delivery methods for containerized cargo through the method of permutation and combination. Here we only introduce 9 common situations, and other situations can be derived according to the following content.

① Door to Door delivery method.

The door to door delivery method refers to the transport operator receiving the goods at the shipper’s factory or warehouse, and is responsible for transporting the goods to the consignee’s factory or warehouse for delivery. Under this delivery method, the delivery form of the goods is the whole container delivery.

② Door to CY delivery method.

The door to CY delivery method refers to the transport operator receiving the goods at the shipper’s factory or warehouse, and is responsible for transporting the goods to the unloading port terminal yard or its inland yard, and delivering it to the consignee at CY. Under this delivery method, the goods are also delivered in full containers.

③ Door to CFS delivery method.

The door-to-station delivery method refers to the transport operator receiving the goods at the shipper’s factory or warehouse, and is responsible for transporting the goods to the container freight station at the unloading port terminal or its container freight station in the inland area, and delivering them to the consignees after unpacking. Under this delivery method, the transport operator generally receives the goods in the form of a full container and delivers the goods in the form of a groupage.

④ Yard-to-door (CY to Door) delivery method.

The yard-to-door delivery method refers to the transport operator receiving the shipper’s goods (full container cargo) at the terminal yard or its inland yard, and is responsible for transporting the goods to the consignee’s factory or warehouse and delivering them to the consignee (full container cargo).

⑤ Yard-to-yard (CY to CY) delivery method.

The yard-to-yard delivery method refers to the transport operator receiving the goods (full container cargo) at the terminal yard or its inland yard at the loading port, and is responsible for transporting them to the unloading terminal yard or its inland yard, and delivering them to the consignee at the yard.

⑥ CY to CFS delivery method.

The CY to CFS delivery method refers to the transport operator receiving the goods (full container) at the terminal yard of the loading port or its inland yard, and is responsible for transporting them to the container freight station at the unloading port terminal or its container freight station in the inland area, and generally delivering them to the consignee after unpacking.

⑦ CFS to Door delivery method.

The CFS to Door delivery method refers to the transport operator receiving the goods (after LCL) at the container freight station at the loading port terminal and its inland container freight station, and is responsible for transporting them to the consignee’s factory or warehouse for delivery. Under this delivery method, the transport operator generally accepts the goods in LCL form and delivers the goods in full container form.

⑧ CFS to CY delivery method.

The station-to-station delivery method refers to the transport operator receiving the goods (after LCL) at the container freight station at the loading port terminal or its inland container freight station, and being responsible for transporting them to the unloading port terminal or its inland freight yard for delivery. In this way, the delivery form of goods is generally accepted in the form of LCL and delivered in the form of full container.

⑨ Station-to-station (CFS to CFS) delivery method.

The station-to-station delivery method refers to the transport operator receiving the goods (after LCL) at the container freight station at the loading port terminal or the container freight station in the inland area, and being responsible for transporting them to the unloading port terminal or its inland container freight station, and delivering them to the consignee (after unpacking). In this way, the delivery method of goods is generally LCL delivery.

The above nine delivery methods can be further summarized into the following four common methods:

① Door-to-door: The characteristic of this mode of transportation is that during the entire transportation process, it is completely container transportation, and there is no cargo transportation, so it is most suitable for full container delivery and full container delivery (FCL/FCL).

② Door-to-station: The characteristic of this mode of transportation is that from door to station is container transportation, and from station to door is cargo transportation, so it is suitable for full container delivery and split container delivery (FCL/LCL).

③ Station-to-door: The characteristic of this mode of transportation is that from door to station is cargo transportation, and from station to door is container transportation, so it is suitable for less than container delivery and full container delivery (LCL/FCL).

④ Station-to-station: The characteristic of this mode of transportation is that except for the middle section which is container transportation, the inland transportation at both ends is cargo transportation, so it is suitable for less than container delivery and split container delivery (LCL/LCL).
