EU and US Trademark and Patent Search and Tool Usage Guide

EU Trademark Search

To conduct an EU trademark search, first visit the EU Intellectual Property Office website, click “cSearch plus”, enter the English name of the search trademark (or upload a picture), and you can view relevant information.

US trademark search

Visit the official website of the US Trademark Office, click “TESS”, select “Basic Word Mark Search (New User)”, enter the trademark name in “Search Term”, and click “Submit Query”. For example, when searching for “fidget”, 102 similar trademarks can be found.

EU Patent Search

Enter the European Patent Office website, select “Espacenet-patent search”, enter the name or keywords of the design in the search box, and click “Search”. Taking “fidget spinner” as an example, 11 records can be found.

US Patent Search

Go to the USPTO website, select “PatFT | AppFT”, select the search method in “Field 1”, enter keywords and search. Taking “Spinner Toy” as an example, there will be 10 results. Note that judging whether there is infringement should not only look at the number of “points” of difference, but rather from the perspective of ordinary consumers.

On the China Trademark Network, you can search for trademarks through the “Comprehensive Trademark Search”. On the US Trademark Office website, search through the “TESS” system. To inquire about EU trademarks, you need to visit the website of the European Union Intellectual Property Office. In addition, the World Intellectual Property Organization’s global trademark database is available for query.

Patent search tool

On the website of the State Intellectual Property Office of China, patent inquiries can be conducted according to IPC classification and other methods. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website supports patent searches. EU patents can be searched through the EPO website. The World Intellectual Property Organization website also provides international patent search services.

Copyright query tool

China Copyright Online Software Copyright Registration Website allows searching by software name or copyright holder. The copyright of the work can also be checked on the corresponding website. When registering the copyright of a digital work, a DCI code will be issued as a unique identifier.
