Game consoles and their accessories may become a blue ocean product in Peru.
Although restrictions related to quarantine have been relaxed, Peruvians seem to prefer to carry out daily activities at home, one of which is online gaming. According to an analysis by Linio.com, an e-commerce platform in Latin America, the number of searches for game consoles and computer equipment and accessories by Peruvian buyers increased by 100% in the second quarter compared to the first quarter, and this trend will continue to rise.
Linio said that despite the increasing interest in video games among Peruvian women, male players still focus on 86% of searches. The average age of customers is between 25 and 35 years old, and the average consumption of consumer goods is 1,500 Peruvian soles. The most popular of these games: the PlayStation 5 console, followed by the Nintendo Switch and Xbox X new series, which saw sales increase by 300% in the first half of 2021.
Other subcategories with sales growth of more than 100% are reportedly gaming accessories, mainly game consoles, mobile phone controllers and gaming headsets. In addition, sales of mini nostalgic game consoles also increased by 200%. Data shows that the demand for “retro” game consoles has also grown steadily.
In terms of video games, the first half of this year has increased by 50% compared with the same period last year. In the Play station5 released in 2020, due to limited production, it was snapped up by game buyers.
Linio held the “Celebrate Video Game Festival Week” event from August 9 to August 15, allowing all game consoles, video game consoles, and laptops to enjoy discounts of up to 40%. In the “Video Game Festival”, in addition to the most popular game consoles and laptops, keyboards, microphones, gaming chairs, mobile storage, hard drives, headphones, nostalgic game consoles, game consoles, game consoles and other accessories will also enjoy additional discounts.
