Direct mail delivery means that after receiving the order, the seller will pack the products and send them to the warehouse established by the platform in China. Finally, the platform’s official logistics will complete the customs clearance and subsequent final delivery of the goods.
Regarding direct mail delivery, sellers need to pay attention to the following points before delivery:
(1) After receiving a new order, the seller needs to deliver the goods to Jumia’s designated warehouse in my country within 3 working days, otherwise the order will be automatically cancelled by the platform.
(2) The outer box of the product packaging needs to clearly mark the number of packages contained in the box.
(3) If an order contains multiple items (products), there are two ways to pack and ship: one is “item by item” delivery, that is, one package with one shipping label; the other is to combine multiple items into one package for delivery, that is, all or part of the order share one package.
(4) Jumia currently has 6 distribution centers in my country, located in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Xiamen, and Yiwu (with pickup service). However, the settings of each designated warehouse in the Jumia backend “Settings” > “Your Profile” > “Shipping” are different.
Seko is Jumia’s designated logistics provider. Seko does not charge warehousing fees. Domestic express delivery is uniformly SF Express. If the seller uses other express delivery companies, Seko has the right to refuse to accept the goods, and the responsibility shall be borne by the seller.
New sellers need to sign a logistics agreement with Seko before officially shipping, otherwise the warehouse has the right to refuse to accept the goods. The agreement only needs to be signed once, and it does not need to be signed again when opening other sites. If it is a Hong Kong company, it needs to sign a Hong Kong version of the contract to open an account with Jumia; if it is a mainland company, it needs to sign a mainland version of the contract. The contract that needs to be signed can be obtained by contacting the corresponding investment manager.
The seller needs to compile all the parcel tracking numbers, order numbers and corresponding target countries of the day’s shipment into a spreadsheet document, and report the domestic express delivery number to Seko by email.
(5) Jumia’s unified return policy is the same as Taobao in China, which is 7 days without reason. If the buyer wants to return the product, the product will be returned to the platform’s local warehouse first, and then the warehouse’s quality inspection personnel will check whether the returned goods meet the secondary sale standards. If they meet the secondary sale standards, the products will be directly stored in the platform warehouse and wait for the opportunity for secondary sale. For qualified products that do not meet the secondary sale standards or have been stored in the local warehouse for more than 90 days without being sold, the platform will send a return list to the seller to confirm whether they need to be shipped back to China. If not, the platform will directly destroy them locally. If the seller requests a return, he needs to follow the steps.
If the seller cannot pick up the goods within the pick-up period in step 4, he can reply to the email in step 2 to apply for delayed pick-up and provide an estimated pick-up time. The pick-up period can be delayed by up to two weeks. If the seller does not pick up the goods within the pickup period or expected pickup time specified by the platform, the warehouse will default to abandoning the goods and will not be able to pick up the goods in the future.
The official return email of the platform will state the specific pickup date, so that the seller can better arrange the pickup. If the pickup period includes Nigerian holidays and the goods cannot be picked up, the platform will postpone the pickup period and inform the seller in advance of the specific arrangements in the return email.
Regarding the pickup method, Jumia currently does not have an official return logistics service provider. Once a return occurs, the seller needs to arrange an agent to pick up the goods from the Jumia warehouse on the pickup date or the expected pickup time and send them back to China. Note that due to the problem of logistics in Africa, if the returned products are of small value, it is recommended that the seller directly hand them over to the platform for destruction locally, otherwise it will incur high logistics costs and cumbersome logistics processes. If the value of the product is relatively large, the seller is best to cooperate with international logistics providers that support pickup services, such as DHL, UPS, FedEx and Choice, to assist in the return.
As for the processing fee of returned goods, the platform will not charge any fees for products destroyed directly locally, but for goods that need to be returned, the platform will charge a return processing fee of US$0.51 for each returned item.
