According to surveys and research, convenience and speed are important reasons why Southeast Asian consumers choose to place orders online. 81% of Southeast Asian consumers said that shopping is easy and time-saving is the main reason why they choose to shop online.

Following closely, 72% of Southeast Asian consumers believe that online shopping is convenient for comparing products, so as to select more affordable products. This phenomenon reflects that product prices determine consumer behavior, and price is an important factor considered by Southeast Asian consumers.

63% of Southeast Asian consumers believe that online shopping can better understand products and can understand the durability of products through user reviews. 59% of Southeast Asian consumers said that online shopping can allow them to browse more similar products in order to select products that better meet their needs.

2. Reasons why Southeast Asian consumers exceed their original shopping plans and buy more products

During online shopping, many e-commerce sellers use marketing methods to attract consumers to buy many unplanned products.

A recent survey shows that 61% of Southeast Asian consumers said that store discounts are an important reason for their online shopping to exceed their planned purchases. In addition to store promotions, 50% of Southeast Asian consumers listed per-item postage reductions as a factor that may lead to over-buying. After that, store bulk discounts accounted for 47%. In addition, nearly 45% of Southeast Asian consumers also said that products pushed by e-commerce platforms based on buyers’ purchasing habits may also promote purchasing behavior.

3. The time period when Southeast Asian consumers concentrate on shopping

According to the latest data, the shopping peak in Southeast Asia is generally between 9 am and 5 pm, which is concentrated in the time when people go to work and school. However, Singapore is an exception, where the number of orders in Singapore peaks at around 10 pm.

In major Southeast Asian countries, the number of orders generally shows a downward trend between 5 pm and 7 pm, which is usually the time when people get home from work and have dinner. After that, the number of online shopping orders begins to rise until 11 pm.

4. The time period when Southeast Asian consumers concentrate on shopping in a week

The weekly shopping data of Southeast Asian consumers can be divided into two time trends with rising shopping momentum. Taking Monday as the starting point of the data, the conversion rate of e-commerce sellers in the entire Southeast Asia region has continued to decline over the weekend, with a drop of about 30%; Wednesday reaches the peak of online shopping in the week, and the conversion rate is the highest. The average weekly conversion rate has increased and maintained at 4%~15%.
