The categories of goods on the Shopee platform mainly include consumer electronics, home furnishings, beauty and health care, maternal and child products, clothing and fitness equipment, etc.
Shopee has more than 30 million social media fans, 7 million active sellers, and more than 8,000 employees across Southeast Asia and China. It is the fastest growing e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and the preferred platform for Chinese products to go overseas in Southeast Asia.
Since its establishment, Shopee has maintained rapid growth. In 2018, Shopee’s GMV reached US$10.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 149.9%. In the first quarter of 2019, Shopee’s quarterly GMV increased by 81.8% year-on-year, the total number of orders increased by 82.7% year-on-year, and the number of App downloads exceeded 200 million.
App Annie’s “2019 Mobile Market Report” shows that Shopee ranked first in downloads among global C2C shopping apps in 2018; iPrice Group’s first quarter report of 2019 shows that Shopee has become the most visited e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia in the first quarter of 2019 with a total of 184 million visits on PC and mobile terminals, and the only e-commerce platform with positive traffic growth.
Shopee established offices in Shenzhen and Hong Kong in January 2016 to carry out cross-border business, creating a one-stop cross-border solution for Chinese cross-border sellers, providing traffic, logistics, incubation, language, payment and ERP support. In July 2017, the Shanghai office was established to serve the East China market. In April 2019, it reached a strategic cooperation intention with Xiamen City, and completed the first Shopee cross-border incubation center in Xiamen, and added a Fujian transshipment warehouse. In June of the same year, it signed a memorandum of cooperation with the China (Hangzhou) Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone, reached a strategic cooperation, and released strategic cooperation initiatives such as regional infrastructure, talent development and industrial cluster construction. In June 2020, Shopee Yiwu Operation Center officially opened, which improved Shopee’s integrated operation services in Yiwu, and worked together with the previous warehousing logistics and talent incubation services to continue to deepen its presence in Yiwu. In February 2021, Yan Shuicheng, the former CTO of Yitu Technology, resigned and joined Shopee. In March of the same year, Shopee won the Asia-Pacific Brand Voice List issued by YouGov, and ranked eighth on the “Global BEST Brand List”.
