1. Meaning of ordinary freight rates

Ordinary freight rates refer to the rates suitable for ordinary freight transportation, except for graded freight rates and designated commodity freight rates. Among them, “N” represents the standard ordinary freight rate, which refers to the ordinary freight rate for cargo weighing less than 45 kg. The ordinary freight rates for cargo weighing more than 45 kg (including 45 kg) are all represented by “Q”. The calculation of ordinary freight rates requires the comparison of the minimum freight rate and the freight rate at the higher weight cut-off point with the actual weight freight rate of the cargo.

2. Calculation steps of ordinary freight rates

The calculation steps of ordinary freight rates are as follows:

① Calculate the volumetric weight of the cargo.

② Compare the gross weight with the volumetric weight of the cargo, and select the larger value as the chargeable weight of the cargo.

③ Calculate the freight rate based on the freight rate and chargeable weight in the ordinary freight rate table.

④ Calculate the freight rate using the weight and freight rate at the higher weight cut-off point, and compare with the value obtained in step (3), and take the lower one.

⑤ Compare the value obtained in step (4) with the minimum freight rate M, and take the higher one.
