Cross-border e-commerce market annual transaction volume proportion, changing trends and future forecast analysis
This article aims to explore the market share of annual transaction volume by analyzing the monthly sales data of 15 secondary categories under the “Sportswear/casual wear” category on the cross-border e-commerce platform from 2018 to 2020. Compare situations, changing trends, and make predictions for the future.
1. Open the data source
First, we need to open two different data sources: “Project One Task One Market Capacity Analysis” and “Project One Task Two Market Trend Analysis”. Both data sources come from third-party data platforms.
2. Import pivot table
To better analyze the data, we will use Excel’s “Pivot Table” feature. The specific steps are as follows:
- After selecting the table data, click the “Pivot Table” button in the “Insert” tab;
- Select “Select a table or range” in the pop-up “Create Pivot Table” dialog box, then select the cell range where the data source is located (such as A1:U541), and place the data in a new worksheet;
- Drag the “second Type” field into the “Row” label box, drag the “trading volume” field into the “Value” label box, and set the “Value Display Mode” to “Sum Term”;
- For trend analysis, you also need to drag “first Type” into the “Column” label box, and drag “Year”, “Quarter”, and “Month” into the “Row” label box.
3. Insert charts
After completing the construction of the pivot table, the next step is to insert charts to visualize the data:
- Select the PivotTable data, click the “Recommended Chart” button in the “Insert” tab, and select “Pie Chart” or “Line Chart”;
- For pie charts, they are mainly used to show the market share distribution of secondary categories; for line charts, they are used to show the changing trend of market transaction amounts over time;
- When optimizing the chart, make sure to check options such as “Chart Title” and “Data Label”, and adjust the label content appropriately.
4. Chart optimization
In order to make the chart more readable and accurate, it needs to be further optimized:
- Modify the title of the chart to “Proportion of Secondary Category Market Transaction Amount” or “Change Trend of Primary Category Market Transaction Amount”;
- Set the display unit of the coordinate axis to “100000000” (billion);
- Adjust the legend position to the top and delete unnecessary confidence intervals.
5. Data analysis
By observing and analyzing the charts, we can draw the following conclusions:
- Between 2018 and 2020, the transaction value of the three secondary categories “Motion pants”, “Sport suit” and “Sports T-shirt” dominated the market, and their sum exceeded the total transaction value of the first-level category. 50%, of which “Motion pants” accounted for the largest proportion, reaching 26%;
- The market transaction amount shows obvious seasonal fluctuations, especially in February (or January) every year, it drops to the lowest due to the Spring Festival logistics outage, while in November it reaches the peak due to the impact of e-commerce promotions;
- It is predicted that the market transaction volume will continue to grow in 2021, but the transaction amount in November may decline slightly.
